A Little Space to Create: The Joy of Junk Journaling

Courtnee & Courtney at the Sept Fall Junk Journal Jam 🍁

Sometimes, you just need a little time to slow down and create something with your hands. βœ‚οΈπŸ“”πŸ‚

Recently, I hosted a Junk Journal Jam at the studio to celebrate the start of fall. I put the event together just five days in advance (whew! πŸ˜…) and honestly, I was fully prepared to spend the evening journaling by myself. I’d been craving some uninterrupted time to sit down, get creative, and spend a little time with my thoughts.

But then, someone signed up!

Suddenly, what I thought would be a solo creative evening turned into a little gathering. I pulled together journals, decorative papers, stickers, and other craft supplies to help us get started. We had a mix of new materials and recycled treasures, because part of the fun of junk journaling is discovering how ordinary scraps can become something special.

So, what exactly is junk journaling?

Think of it as scrapbooking meets journaling, with a little bit of creative freedom thrown in. You can use old book pages, magazine clippings, receipts, photographs, stickers, washi tape, handwritten notes, and just about anything else that inspires you to create a page that feels like you.

There are no rules about making everything match or having perfect handwriting. You can layer, cut, glue, doodle, write, and experiment. Your journal can be a place to document your life, collect memories, explore your creativity, or simply make something beautiful.

And honestly, I think we could all use a little more of that kind of freedom.

At Flow With Coco, we often explore wellness through movement and mindfulness. But wellness can also look like stepping away from your usual routine, trying something new, spending time with your hands, and giving yourself permission to do something simply because you enjoy it.

You don't have to be an artist. You don't have to be an expert journaler. You don't even have to know what you're making when you start.

Sometimes, you just have to show up.

Ready for another creative evening? πŸ‚

Join us for our next Junk Journal Jam, Fall-maxxing, on October 29 at Flow With Coco! We'll gather, get crafty, and make space for a little creativity and connection.

Bring your imagination. I'll bring the supplies.
